In a thrilling game, UW Women’s Hockey beat Robert Morris 3-2 on Saturday November 7, 2009.

Received the November 2009 issue of Inside Wisconsin Sports magazine and they went with my UW-Badger volleyball photo featuring Brittney Dolgner with teammates, pages 12-13 of the mag.

October 9, 2009~

Merrill Area Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Lisa Snyder, MHS principal Shannon Murray and Activities Director Jordan Sinz announced Merrill volleyball coach Sally Pfund’s passing Friday morning at a press conference. She was 49 and leaves behind a husband and two adult daughters.

October 8, 2009~

Merrill head coach Sally Pfund suffered a massive stroke today and her family is not expecting her to survive, according to Merrill Area Public Schools.

Merrill high school and community are in our thoughts and prayers.

My most vivid memory of Sally was of a meet at DC Everest last year. After photographing volleyball action all day, Sally decided I was in the wrong position and called out for me to move. Being in the same position most of the day, I thought she was talking about another photographer.

Looking around and seeing no one, I asked if she meant me. She said yes. At that point I moved, looked at the up judge and we both chuckled.  By yelling across the floor she distracted her team, as they were now more concerned with me than the opponent, and swiftly lost that set.

One of the DC Everest girls, who will remain anonymous, said at the beginning of the next set, “That’s OK, we like photographers” and smiled.  Needless to say, the rest of the pictures were of DC Everest.

Sally was a fierce competitor and didn’t hesitate to let you know her opinion.  She will be missed as she added excitement to the game.

September 29, 2009~

Another great volleyball match for the 2009 “Volley for the Cure”.

Wausau West prevailed this year 3 games to 1.

Scores of 25-21, 25-15, 10-25, 25-23 handing the Lumberjacks their first WVC loss of the season.

Wausau East put up a valiant effort and almost pushed it to a fifth game but came up a little short.

Wausau West, # 21, Carissa had another wonderful match.

# 13, Amanda was fired up throughout the match.

Wausau East, # 2 Jamie, served well and added life when most needed.

Also, #4 Cindy, had one of the most unbelievable shots I have seen in years on the court. Still marveling at that one handed return for a winner!

All players contributed to another great volleyball match and an even better cause!

Sept. 21, 2009~

In a match that was one of the most exciting I have attended in a while, Antigo beat DC Everest 3-1 in volleyball action tonight. Well balanced attack and defense keyed the win.

September 19, 2009~

Merrill beat Antigo 28-14 in football action from today.

Merrill had a nice mix of play calling with spread offenses, shotgun, and even threw in a fake field goal to score a touchdown.

Still confused by Antigo play calls being down by two touchdowns with 3:57 left and continuing to run the football.

The clock was the enemy, not the Refs…
