Photo controversy Dads and Daughters…

Posted in Random Thoughts with tags , , , , , , , on Tuesday August 19, 2008 by Patrick Blood

Capture the Decisive Moment is a phrase first used by Henri Cartier-Bresson, who most consider to be the father of photojournalism. Cartier-Bresson’s book “The Decisive Moment” was published in 1952 with plenty of great examples of those moments he described.

Photography is unique in that it does capture a moment in time for all to share. What I find most interesting are the reactions that some people have to certain photos.

For example, the controversy that enveloped Miley Cyrus and her father from the Vanity Fair photo shoot. Some questioned the appropriateness of some photos from the shoot. I am still trying to figure out how this became such a ’story’.

Compare that to the shot of Nastia Liukin and her father from the Olympics.

Is one more acceptable or appropriate than the other? Does one photo elicit a more profound reaction because it is posed versus the spontaneity of said moment? I will let you be the judge on that one.

Here is another example of a ‘controversial’ photo taken by Rich-Joseph Facun, an award winning photographer for THE VIRGINIAN-PILOT. Check the link for additional details of his story as it is fascinating reading.

Just random thoughts as I watch the Olympics…

August 16, 2008 ~ Big Smokey Falls, Extreme Rafting

Another great day at Big Smokey Falls with great weather and lots of photos.

Water levels were down a bit with lots of rafters getting dumped out.

One of my Fav photos of the day followed by a video clip of rafters surviving Big Smokey…
