2010 Lakeland Thunderbird Gymnastics Invitational

February 6, 2010~

Another fun event at Lakeland with some great gymnastics. I often wonder if people fully appreciate the time and effort it takes to pull one of these events off. It takes judges, coaches, parents, volunteers, etc.,  plus the hours that athletes take in preparing for what might only last 20 seconds. I will probably add more to this thought later but in the interim, some photos from today’s events.

Jordan Mach breaks Antigo single game basketball scoring record

January 22, 2010~

Jordan Mach broke the single game basketball scoring record tonight beating Jeff Lund’s mark of 40 points.  Jordan scored 42 points and also set a new school record for three-point shots made.

The ironic part of the story is that my Uncle, Dr. Michael Kretz, previously held the record of 39 points that Jeff broke.

Jordan Mach and Jeff Lund after Jordan beats the single game record held previously by Jeff. Jordan scored 42 points beating the old mark of 40 points.

My montage isn’t perfectly focused but captures the moment just the same.

Montage of Jordan Mach's 42nd point, breaking the school record.

January 16, 2010~

A full day of gymnastics at DC Everest today and lots of excitement.

Teams included: Antigo, Ashland, DC Everest, Kaukauna, Marshfield, Mosinee, Rhinelander, Stevens Point, and Wisconsin Rapids.

It still amazes me to see the skill set that gymnasts posses.

Several photos from the Invitational with more to follow:

January 10, 2010~

I attended the Central Wisconsin Cheer and Dance Exhibition today at Wausau West High School and was once again impressed with the skills, enthusiasm, and athletic prowess of the participants.

I assume they toil for hours learning the routines which last but a few minutes, but it really is amazing to watch.

Several photos from today’s action.

Canon unveils new 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM Lens

Jan. 5, 2010~

Canon has announced  a successor to its professional workhorse fast telezoom, in the shape of the EF 70-200mm F2.8 L IS II USM. Although outwardly similar to its predecessor, the new lens features a revised optical design, incorporating a fluorite element and no fewer than 5 UD elements for the correction of chromatic aberrations. The minimum focus distance has been reduced to 1.2m, with a corresponding increase in maximum magnification to 0.21x. The mechanical design has also been modified, with the most obvious external change being a wider focusing ring. As usual for an L series design, the lens features dust- and drip-proof construction. It’s also fully compatible with Canon’s existing teleconverters and extension tubes.
